Children's Books

We have tons of children's books, but so many of them just aren't interesting (to me at least). So I'm wanting to beef up our children's book collection with some of those all time favorites for Christmas. What do your children like? Especially any recommendations for 18 months and 4 year olds. The more I search, the more we'll  probably have most of what you recommend, but let me know anyway!

The Froggy books - "Froggy's First Kiss" etc. There's a whole series and Char and Claire love them.

Leslie Patricelli writes really cute board books that Gabe loves. He has "No No Yes Yes," and I've seen "Quiet Loud" "Binkie" and "Blanky"

I bet you have "Goodnight Moon" which he also loves.

They like anything by Sandra Boynton. They love that book, "David, No!"

Jess says, "Nelly Lou's Hairdos"
The Fancy Nancy books are fun. They all three like the Clifford books.

I LOVE children's books!

Me too! Of course we have "Goodnight Moon". Even Naomi has it memorized! And we do like the Fancy Nancy books too. We haven't purchased any yet because we keep getting those from the library. We especially like Corduroy (Brian's favorite), anything Curious George, I'm also quite a fan of Dr Seuss, and Naomi loves The Carrot Seed! And we really like that book "You are Special" with the dots and stars. Right now we just have so many Dora and Diego books, I'm just not a huge fan of anything Character oriented. I like story lines that aren't based on the set plot line set up for Dora or the Wonder Pets. I just bought them some of those Golden Books, like the Pokey Little Puppy. I've read all of those you mentioned so I think it'd be great to add them to our collection!

we LOVE Fancy Nancy at our house! There is a bunch of books about a little Siamese cat who thinks he's a chihuahua (Skippy Jon Jones)... They are hilarious! I'm not sure if the kids get all the jokes, but they are still pretty funny! Little Critter by Mercer Mayer is cute. Any of the Laura Numeroff/Felicia Bond books ... if you give a mouse a cookie, if you give a moose a muffin, etc. Chrysanthemum is also a fun one! I'm sure I can think of more... I mean I read them ALL day long at school. I'll keep you posted.

Oh! The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear is a must!

I LOVE the Little Critter books, and my kids do, too. They also like The Berenstein Bears, which is odd b/c there are lots of words on the pages, and the stories are pretty long. They sit there and listen, though.

We love all the books mentioned. We also like:
Follow the Line Through the House
Hungry Caterpillar
Is your Mama a Llama?
Diary of a Worm
Madeline's Rescue
anything Richard Scarry
Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes
The Little Engine That Could
Never Take a Shark to the Dentist
How do Dinosaurs Eat their Food?
How do Dinosaurs Play with their Friends?
When Ruby Tried to Grow Candy

Growing up I really liked the Sweet Pickle books although we don't own any. I'm with you, I can't stand books based on TV shows and movies although we do own some.

We love all Sandra Boynton books. Also, Kevin Henkes. Hmmm... and Eric Carle. Have you read "llama llama red pajama" or "llama llama mad at mama". Too cute. Oh. and some classics: Are you my mother? and Go Dog Go. James loves "Pat the Bunny"
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
